According to the Unified Numbering System (UNS):
Cast Aluminum Bronzes are copper alloys, containing 7-13% of aluminum (Al) and 2-4.5% of iron as the major alloying elements. Cast Aluminum Bronzes are designated with the numbers from C95000 through C95999.
Cast Aluminum Bronzes may contain up to 5% of nickel (Ni) and up to 13.5% of manganese (Mn) as additional alloying elements.
Cast Aluminum bronzes are duplex alloys, having binary phase structure (mixture of α-phase and β-phase).
Iron and nickel are added to the Cast Aluminum Bronzes for increasing their strength. Nickel also improves corrosion resistance of the alloys. Manganese stabilizes the alloy microstructure.
Cast Aluminum Bronzes possess high mechanical strength combined with very good corrosion resistance in both atmosphere and sea water due to the ability of aluminum to form protective film of aluminum oxide on the metal surface.
Machinability of Cast Aluminum Bronzes is low to moderate.
Cast Aluminum Bronzes are used for manufacturing hydrant parts, hot mill guides, welding jaws, pickling equipment, worm wheels, wear plates, pump parts, electrical hardware, valves, high strength clamps, terminals, acid resistant pumps, marine hardware, cable connectors, bearings, bushings, musical instruments, gears, plungers.
